- Icon Windows Readme 26 OCT 94
- Thank you for trying out Icon Windows v1.5.
- (previously known as Icon WDEF)
-
- PURPOSE
- I wrote this init back in the days when I had a Mac SE and urgently
- needed more real estate on the screen. I wanted my windows to be as
- minimalist as they could be. I feel that borders should be small,
- titlebars should be small, and it would be nice to zap away the whole
- window easily when you're not using it. It should be compatible with
- all systems, and be pretty fast at drawing windows.
- Hence, I wrote Icon Windows, aka Icon WDEF
-
- FEATURES
- Icon Windows installs a new set of WDEF's into your system. These window
- definitions have the qualities described above- they have small title
- bars and small borders. They also have an extra button in the title
- bar, next to the close button which "iconifies" the window when you
- click on it.
-
- Version 1.5 allows for an icon to be positioned in a different place
- from where the window is, and it remembers where to go when the window
- is uniconified.
-
- I tried to make it as fast as possible- I used to think it was faster
- than the system windows on my SE; I'm not sure if this is true any
- more. On faster macs there is no real speed difference.
-
- If for some reason you would rather have a specific window be of the
- default variety, open that window with the Caps Lock key down.
-
- BUGS
- On some macs, Icon Windows apparently crashes the system regularly.
- Other macs seem not to have this problem. It never crashes my IIsi or
- my SE. It never crashes my best friend's Quadra 660AV. It crashes my
- neighbor's Quadra 700 every time. Your mileage may vary. It probably
- conflicts with some other inits that I don't use. If it doesn't work
- for you, I'm sorry. Someday maybe I'll fix it. There may be a
- PowerMac version someday, but there isn't yet.
-
- Also, some applications remember where a window was when they close
- it. If you iconify a window and move the icon then close the
- application, it may reopen with the window positioned where the icon
- was, rather than where the open window was. This is unfortunate and I
- don't know of any way to fix it under the Mac OS.
-
